Win in a competition. Extension project planning for upper secondary school.

The multi-purpose building in Ranua is a one-story school centre, which houses a sports hall and the municipal library. The school complex consists of pre-school and primary school classrooms with courtyards. The facilities will be used by around 250 children and around 50 staff. The building’s frame structure is mainly made of wood and the roofs are made of rubberized asphalt shingle roofings. The architectural design is based on the local character and the natural environment. The shape of the building is reminiscent of a hillside landscape and the facade is clad in larch.

The key values for the building and its functionality are safety, health, adaptability, community and inspiration. Pedagogical support is given to curricular objectives, phenomenological learning and transversal competences. The functionality of the building is in line with the requirements of the new curriculum (OPS 2016).
