Voimakatu Ratina

Year 2015-2023

Location Ratina, Tampere

Area 21,000 m², Floor area

Client YIT, City of Tampere

The last undeveloped block in Ratina, near the centre of Tampere, is being completed with a high-quality residential block following a zoning change. Under the commission of YIT and the City of Tampere, we designed a residential block that fits into the materials and the height environment of the surrounding buildings. In the centre of this block is a preserved old brick-built substation building that serves as a common recreational, meeting, and sauna building for the block.

The key design theme has been simple and enduring residential planning in a beautiful urban environment. The buildings have been designed with roof terraces and communal spaces with views of the lake.

This project is one of Tampere’s first Green Factor projects, which has guided the design to include green roofs in the lower buildings and a rain garden, delaying storm water, near the substation, designed by our landscape architect. The block opens up with impressive landscape steps towards Lake Pyhäjärvi.
