The Vöyrinkaupunki workshop area is set to be repurposed for other uses as Wärtsilä relocates its workshop operations to the new research, development, and production centre in Vaskiluoto.

In the urban planning work commissioned by Wärtsilä and the City of Vaasa, the possibility of transforming the area into residential, service, and commercial buildings will be explored, along with the design of streets, various modes of transportation, and the overall structure of the blocks. The aim is to create a diverse and enticing urban environment that adds value to the residents of Vaasa city centre and other users of the area. The goal of the planning is to create an attractive, sustainably developed area that makes the most of its central location, proximity to the sea, and historical significance.
