The over-100-year-old sock factory located at the corner of Satamakatu and Koulukatu was renovated into a residential property combining rental, service, and ownership housing. This familiar building to Tampere residents has previously housed Pyynikki Health Centre and the city’s social services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Winners of a land transfer competition, VTS-kodit and Lujatalo Oy, developed rental, ownership, and service apartments in the factory building. Additionally, office and commercial space were built on the ground floor. Construction began in November 2015, and the project was completed in February 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The construction site was exceptionally demanding. The arc-windowed facades were protected by the officials, but almost all the interiors of the building were dismantled and rebuilt, including most of the intermediate floors. At the same time, the property’s load-bearing structures and foundations were reinforced. An interesting detail is the old heat plant in the factory courtyard, which was renovated into a multi-purpose sports hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

VTS-kodit built 46 affordable rental apartments for seniors (aged 55 and over) in the factory building. The project was named VTS Sukkasillaan, and the apartments range in size from 26.5 to 80.5 square meters. In addition, the property includes five group homes for enhanced service housing, offering a total of 70 service apartments for elderly people with memory impairments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The building is protected in the city plan.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
