The Tietotalo building consists of five above-ground floors and one basement level that extends beneath the entrance courtyard. The building’s distinctive shape, following the boundaries of the plot, and its strongly divided facade create a clearly identifiable structure that holds its own spot within the urban landscape among the other larger buildings.

The fortress-like appearance of the exterior, with locally sourced brick walls and their grid-like openings, conveys a sense of security and safety. The interior courtyard, enclosed by glass walls facing Naulakatu Street, is designed on a smaller scale.

The ground floor houses the information desk, a restaurant, meeting and training facilities, as well as customer service for Yliopistopaino. The second to fifth floors accommodate office spaces, divided into two sections by the building’s full-height lobby. The basement level contains server rooms, auxiliary spaces, technical facilities, civil defence shelters, storage areas, social facilities, and maintenance spaces.

In terms of technical building systems, Tietotalo’s qualities go beyond the typical office building. Due to the nature of its operations, safety requirements are emphasised. The building is equipped with an addressable fire alarm system, and critical technical spaces are equipped with a gas extinguishing system. It is prepared for power outages with an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) backup system. Cooling water for the data centres is supplied by two parallel systems to ensure reliability. Access control utilises a fingerprint-based system.
