Transformation of Yle Tohloppi TV Centre into a media hub, including event, production, office, and teaching spaces, as well as a restaurant and meeting rooms, commissioned by Technopolis Oy / YLE.

As a result of the transformation project, Yle got new office and production spaces, along with a new studio (shared studio and event hall called Factory). Approximately 5,000 m2 of teaching and research spaces were created for Tampere University of Applied Sciences’ media program and Tampere Vocational College Tredu’s audiovisual communication program. The educational institutions also have access to Mediapolis’ shared spaces, totalling 5,700 m2.

Additionally, the project provided work and office spaces for media industry companies, with synergy between spaces and functions as a guiding theme. For example, internships organised by educational institutions take place in YLE’s production spaces, studios, and editing rooms, as well as in the spaces of the media centre’s other companies.

Technopolis Oy’s renovations in 2013-2014 covered an area of 14,300 m2, and YLE’s expansion projects in 2015-2020 amounted to a total area of 2,100 m2, with renovations totalling 2,200 m2.

Mediapolis is a Finnish world-class content production and ICT campus. The campus saw an influx of new operators when Tampere University of Applied Sciences and Tampere Vocational College Tredu’s media programs, along with media and ICT companies, were relocated to the newly renovated spaces in the fall of 2014.

The new work environment aimed to emphasise the existing relaxed and communal atmosphere, as well as Finnish identity. The spaces are designed to improve transparency between different campus entities, conditions for creative work, and efficient use of spaces. Upon completion of the renovation and transformation works, the campus includes office, educational, production, and studio spaces, as well as a shared lobby, a restaurant, and café spaces, along with meeting rooms and auditorium spaces.

The gross area of the old TV centre in Mediapolis is 33,000 m2. The project also included comprehensive planning of land use and possible additional construction.
