The new block replicates the robust architecture of Aaltosen Kenkätehdas (Shoe Factory) with a modern touch. The red brick exterior blends the new building into the surroundings of old heritage buildings and strengthens their presence in the urban environment.
Two large openings pierce through the block, allowing light into the inner courtyard, where the red brick transitions into a white brick surface seamlessly. The tall building is matched with the former factory building by angling the upper corner of the block, creating a new facade facing the favourable southwest direction. This design opens up the apartments to long views across Tammelantori Square.
The high quality of construction in this straightforward and large-scale building is evident in the carefully chosen details of the masonry. Wooden elements in shades of oak have been used in places to add warmth to the stony appearance. The design of the apartments prioritises ample natural light and functionality in daily living.
