The Colosseum block consists of three buildings, with two curved buildings forming part of the landmark of central Kivistö, an ensemble created by large circles. The project is located adjacent to the Kivistö station of the new Kehärata railway, on the edge of Topaasiaukio Square.

The 12-story curved residential building, Avara Colosseum, fits the Topaasiaukio style with its form and high-quality materials: a contrasting combination of rough brick and gleaming metal. Playful openings in the facades add individuality to the combination. The building is punctuated by a three-story, 12-meter-wide portico, providing access to the station square. High and well-lit commercial spaces on the ground floor facing Topaasiaukio complement the service hub around the square. The building includes an underground parking space beneath the courtyard and a sheltered courtyard shared by the entire block with play and lounging areas.

Juhani Paajanen Square is home to a 7-story curved residential building, Aaria and Hymni, that is also part of a larger complex that extends beyond this block. The inner arch facing the square has a more enclosed appearance, while the facade facing the inner courtyard is more open to the evening sun.

The rectangular Aurora, Victoria, Cupido, and Minerva apartment buildings at the northwest edge of the block complement the complex with a rational form, emphasising the landmark buildings. Their streamlined facades feature various shades of brick that blend into the surrounding material palette. The entrances are colourful, connecting these otherwise harmoniously coloured buildings to the vibrant atmosphere of Kivistö.

The block’s art pieces were created by artist Kaarina Kaikkonen.
